Alcoholic liver disease

Alcoholic liver disease – A common, but preventable, disease. Alcoholic liver disease is caused by heavy use of alcohol. The liver breaks down alcohol. If you drink more than it can process, it can become seriously damaged. The effects of alcohol on the liver depend on how much and how long you have been drinking. Extreme aggravation of pitta dosha. Since the liver is a seat of pitta, aggravated pitta affects the liver function and later vitiates other doshas as well. Rasa and rakta dhatus are particularly intoxicated while other dhatus too become weak. Almost all functions of pitta such as digestion of food, the complexion of skin, feeling of hunger, production of blood, etc get considerably hampered.

Hepatitis A, B, or C

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver. Inflammation is swelling that happens when tissues of the body are injured or infected. It can damage your liver. This swelling and damage can affect how well your liver functions. Hepatitis can be an acute (short-term) infection or a chronic (long-term) infection. Some types of hepatitis cause only acute infections. Other types can cause both acute and chronic infections. Hepatitis A and hepatitis E usually spread through contact with food or water that was contaminated with an infected person’s stool. You can also get hepatitis E by eating undercooked pork, deer, or shellfish. Hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and hepatitis D spread through contact with the blood of someone who has the disease. Hepatitis B and D may also spread through contact with other body fluids. This can happen in many ways, such as sharing drug needles or having unprotected sex

Cirrhosis of the liver (Kumbha Kamla)

Cirrhosis is a late-stage liver disease in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue and the liver is permanently damaged. Scar tissue keeps your liver from working properly. Many types of liver diseases and conditions injure healthy liver cells, causing cell death and inflammation. This is followed by cell repair and finally tissue scarring as a result of the repair process. The scar tissue blocks the flow of blood through the liver and slows the liver's ability to process nutrients, hormones, drugs, and natural toxins (poisons). It also reduces the production of proteins and other substances made by the liver. Cirrhosis eventually keeps the liver from working properly. Late-stage cirrhosis is life-threatening. Pitta Is the major part of the liver and most liver disorders are caused due to the aggravated conditions of Pitta. Vitiated Pita dosha interferes with the production and flow of bile from the liver, which in turn affects the enzyme activities responsible for the digestion and metabolism process. This affects the complete liver function and other doshas are also hampered.
